My name is Vince Swagerty and Im the new principal here at RCCS and I would like to welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year. It seems like just yesterday kids were headed out for summer break and now we are preparing for another new adventure.
As you may know it has been a summer of transition for me and for RCCS. Im so very happy to be back on the south coast with my wife Valerie. We have spent the last four years living and working in Newberg, Oregon and we are excited to be a part of the Reedsport community as well as being a part of the RCCS community. Ive been an educator since 1985 with nearly all of my experience in small schools and small towns so I feel very at home here.
My theme for this school year is Look, Listen, and Learn. I want to LOOK carefully at the school and see how everything works and fits together. My learning curve is going to be steep as I discover how every little piece plays its part in making the school function. Im just like a new 7th grader that needs to learn about their new schedule and their new teachers as well as find out things like when and where lunch is. So dont be surprised when you see me walking around and observing with wide eyed wonderment as we begin the year.
As important as it is to look at what is happening around me, it is probably more important to LISTEN to all of the people that I have the opportunity to come into contact with. I want to listen to the kids and parents as well as the staff and the community at large. COMMUNITY is part of our name and I need to hear what our community is saying to help improve RCCS. Im looking forward to meeting you as we begin the year at registration and in the office as well as our sports events, conferences, special events, and in town. Drop in when you can or stop me along the way and introduce yourself. I want to hear from you so I can really LISTEN to what can make our school be responsive to our community.
When I take the time to LOOK and LISTEN, it is obvious that I will LEARN from everything I see and hear. The more I learn, the more effective I will be and that will, in turn, help RCCS be a better school.
It will be a new adventure for me as I look, listen, and learn about RCCS and the great city of Reedsport and I thank you in advance for helping make it a wonderful year.
